Painter Jen Evans at the Paramount Theatre’s Grand Gallery

Well-known regional artist Jen Evans will be showing her most recent works inspired by nature soon at the Paramount Theatre in downtown Aurora.

The exhibit, featuring Evans’ large canvases depicting  rocks as seen through the beauty of water, opens on Friday, Aug. 23 on the second floor of the Paramount Theatre, 43 E. Galena Blvd.

Evans, of Aurora, says her art is influenced by a careful observation of nature. Evans has always been inspired by the systems of nature, especially self-similarity.

During her international travels, she found fascination in the details of everyday life, especially in those typically overlooked as mundane. Having internalized this, Evans’ current work has largely been inspired by the modest shores of the Fox River.

Evans’ painting philosophy is to start by having fun with the paint, then to find moments of serendipity in the results.  Evans engages the work by allowing it to unfold as she responds to sometimes unexpected turns.

Evans, an art professor and mom to three daughters, paints in her studio at Water Street Studios in Batavia, and recently showed her work at Side Street Studio Arts in downtown Elgin.

The opening reception is from 7:30 to 9 p.m. on Friday, August 23. The event is free and open to the public. Come to support the arts in Aurora, meet the artist and discuss her work.  A cash bar is available. The exhibit will hang from August 16 through September 18.

The Paramount Theatre Art Gallery, located on the 2nd floor of the Grand Gallery, opened in the fall of 2006. The gallery features the work of both established and aspiring artists. For more information regarding the Art Gallery, or the hanging of a show, please contact Melissa Mercado at
