FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Help Plant Aurora's Riverbanks Project

For the past two years, an environmental partnership of Aurora Downtown, Superior Beverage Company, Inc., Hollywood Casino Aurora, National City Bank, Anheuser-Busch, Fox Valley Park District, the City of Aurora, Aurora Township, SciTech Hands On Museum, the Aurora Area Convention and Visitors Bureau, the Greater Aurora Chamber of Commerce, the Aurora Economic Development Commission, and the Illinois Department of Natural Resources has been placing aquatic plants along the banks of the Fox River just north of downtown, to help stabilize the eroding streambank, and improve water quality and habitat for fish and other organisms. Adult volunteers have planted water willow and lizard's tail while teams of young people have picked up trash and cleaned the riverfront trail.

2003 marks the third year of "Help Plant Aurora's Riverbanks," which we've scheduled for Saturday, June 21st from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. We'd like to invite you to be part of the fun. You can participate by:

  • Making a donation to the project to fund plant material. Because refreshments, an after-event picnic, tee-shirts for the volunteers, printing and postage are all being supplied through in-kind donations from local businesses and organizations, all funds raised from donors like you are spent on the purchase of plants. All donations, regardless of size, are appreciated!
  • Volunteering on the day of the event. If you're age 21+, you can help with planting; if you're under 21, you can help with the trail cleanup.
Please download the Volunteer/Donation Form, complete it, and return it as instructed. If you have questions, call 630-844-3670.
