April 25, 2003 Aurora Downtown Announces 2003 Logo Competition Winner
The winning design (photo attached) will be used on the group's stationery and marketing materials. Fifteen designs were submitted for this year's contest, which was open to all Aurora high school students. In addition to the selection of Nathan's work as first-prize winner, honorable mentions were awarded to George Bozonelos and Brian Colbert, also Waubonsie Valley students. Nathan will receive a check in the amount of $500 as his prize. A check in the same amount will be awarded to his teacher, Sue Rosella. Bob Reuland, secretary for the downtown property owners' association stated, "the competition was conceived as a way to raise awareness among young people about the beauty of downtown Aurora, and especially the significance of our historic architecture. As our community continues to spread east and west, high school students tend to be less conscious of the heart of town, namely downtown." Mr. Reuland commented further that "the competition is sponsored by Aurora Downtown to encourage and recognize talented students and hardworking teachers." Judging of the entries was conducted by Thom Andrewz, chair of the Aurora Public Art Commission and APAC members, including Joyce Reuland, Chris Hoban, Karen Towers, and Rena Church. All entries will be on display from April 26th through May 31st in the atrium at North Island Center, 8 E. Galena Boulevard, in downtown Aurora in conjunction with the Fox Valley Arts Council's annual event, Art Around the Fox. Last year's competition winner was Nick Fron, a student at Aurora Central Catholic High School. His design is currently featured in the margin of Aurora Downtown's stationery. Nathan Jones's design will be added below it. FOR MORE INFORMATION, CONTACT KAREN CHRISTENSEN AT 630-844-3670 OR kchristensen@aurora-il.org. |
