Mayor proclaims Feb. 2 “Tia Carrere Day” in Aurora
Tia Carrere, who starred as Cassandra in Wayne’s World, stopped into If These Walls Could Talk in early February. The shop’s co-owner, Jen Rauch, came up with the idea of celebrating the 25th anniversary of the movie that was fictionally set in Aurora, Ill.
Tia Carrere posed with a bass guitar in the replica of Wayne’s Basement installed at 5 E. Galena (the former Waubonsee College building). Carrere’s character played a bass in the movie in the band Crucial Taunt. Wayne’s Basement is open on First Fridays from 6 to 9 p.m. through June.
Tia Carrere dined at Gillerson’s Grubbery, 33 W. New York St. in downtown Aurora during her visit. Carrere was in town for the screening at Hollywood Blvd Cinema in Woodridge to celebrate the 25th anniversary of Wayne’s World. Aurora kicked off its sixth-month celebration during First Fridays on Feb. 3.
Mayor Bob O’Connor proclaimed Feb. 2 as “Tia Carrere Day” in Aurora, Ill. Carrere was honored for her work in movies and music. Carrere spent one night visiting downtown Aurora with stops at Gillerson’s Grubbery, Wayne’s replica basement, and If These Walls Could Talk, a frame shop and art gallery in downtown.
