Inspiration for this painting came from both my love of trains and my love of the mysterious and moody atmosphere that comes with night. My thought was that the man on the train was going home after a long day, and as the train rocks him, he drifts off into a dream of something in the future . . .of happier days. The new moon is out, symbolizing new beginnings ahead of which he is unaware . . .new beginnings that will be powerful and unstoppable, just like the train that's taking him home.
