Lectures, demonstrates and teaches nationally, and is a twenty-three year veteran of paper marbling.

She has exhibited in the US and abroad, with works held in the permanent collections of the Dutch Royal Library, Palace Print Shop of the Museum of New Mexico, Urumqui Museum Zianjing, China, the Canadian Bookbinders and Book Arts Guild, and the King Library Press of the University of Kentucky and the Newberry Library, Chicago. Hughes has created designs for numerous textile and wall covering manufacturers and was a featured presenter at the 2002 International Marblers Gathering. She co-curated a marbling exhibition for the Scott Foresman Publishers and has exhibited at the Japan Information Center of the Consulate General of Japan in Chicago.

Milena Hughes was selected to give inter-active artist demonstrations in June for Silk Road Oasis, using the historic Silk Road as a conduit to demonstrate multi cultural variables of paper marbling from 12th century Japan (Suminagashi), 16th-17th century Persia, India and Turkey, plus contemporary interpretations.

SILK ROAD OASIS: Summer 2006, is the headquarters of SILK ROAD CHICAGO (Chicago Department of Cultural Affairs Office of Tourism, 72 E. Randolph St.), and is a center for cultural discovery and exchange through educational information inspired by the historic regions of the Silk Road.

In addition, Turkish floral marbling and contemporary interpretations were demonstrated at the Thompson Center, sponsored by the Illinois Artisans Program, an agency of the State of Illinois.
