First Fridays is June 6
If there is ever a possibility that Bill Murray will show up at a First Friday in downtown Aurora, June 6 is the night.
Aurora artist Chris Evans opens “Best Show Ever Man,” his Wes Anderson-themed show at The Yetee, 110 Cross St. from 6 to 11 p.m. during First Fridays in Downtown Aurora. Evans will have on display his popular blind contour drawings of many of the quirky characters (including Murray) that show up in Anderson’s offbeat movies, as well as paintings and other fun surprises.
The Yetee is one of eight venues that are part of the monthly event in downtown Aurora. The art openings are free and open to the public.
The ArtBar at Two Brothers Roundhouse on Broadway from 6 p.m. until midnight features the “Freak Show,” a follow up to last month’s “Geek Show.” The ArtBar is a pop up gallery that showcases the works of dozens of local artists.
If These Walls Could Talk, 32 S. Stolp Ave., presents “Urban Explorations Thru the Lens” throughout the month of June. See new works from photographer Mike Smith, and his protégé, Sally Blottiaux. The show opening runs from 7 to 11 p.m. during First Friday festivities.
Mixed media artist George Turner is the featured artist at Allen and Pepa Architects, 121 W. Benton St. from 5 to 9 p.m.
SciTech Hands on Museum is open for the evening from 6 to 8 p.m. The fun, interactive museum for all ages offers free creation stations that blend art and science throughout the evening.
Aurora Historical Society opens its new exhibit “Play Ball, Aurora” on the first floor of the David L. Pierce Art and History Center, 20 E. Downer Pl. The Art and History Center is open from noon to 8 p.m. for First Fridays.
New to First Fridays is Aurora Fastprint, 54 E. Galena Blvd., and Gallery 44, the upstairs artist studios at 50 E. Galena Blvd. Aurora Fastprint will have the works of Rafael Rocha from 5 to 9 p.m.; Gallery 44 participating artists are Anne Von Ehr, Cheryl Holz, Christian Campos and David Hettinger and is open from 5 to 8 p.m.
