First Fridays in downtown Aurora features art, music, and fun! Visit downtown galleries, pop-up galleries, museums, shops, restaurants, and more on the first Friday of every month.

First Fridays Dec 5, Aurora

Come downtown for a winter wonderland of festive, decorated windows and lots of art, music, and fun on Dec. 5 for First Fridays.

It’s the Small Show at the ArtBar this month. Pick up local art as stocking stuffers. The ArtBar, in the tavern at Two Brothers Roundhouse, features more than two dozen local artists for one night only. Visit the ArtBar from 6 p.m. to midnight.

If These Walls Could Talk, 32 S. Stolp Ave., is open for a good cause from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. The gallery is hosting an auction to support the Aurora Area Interfaith Food Pantry. In its second year, brown paper bags are turned into works of art by local artists and auctioned off to pack the pantry.

It’s Bad Santa at Yetee Gallery, 110 Cross St. If you’ve been naughty, then this is the show for you. Curator Chris Hodge, of Aurora, invites several local artists to display their twisted, holiday works from 7 to 11:30 p.m.

Local musicians will perform at an open mic hosted by Culture Stock, 43 E. Galena Blvd. from 6 to 8 p.m. Musicians are invited to sign up starting at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. Attendees can enjoy acoustic, family-friendly performances.

The David L. Pierce Art and History Center, 20 E. Downer Pl., will be open from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. with various activities, including the History Mystery guessing game sponsored by Aurora Historical Society. Patrons are welcome to shop the Museum Store on the first floor, and visit the Invitational Show on the third floor of the historic building.

Aurora Regional Fire Museum, 53 N. Broadway, will be open from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. with Gingerbread Firehouses on display. The museum is fun for all ages and offers free admission. Donations are welcome.

Allen and Pepa Architects, 121 W. Benton St., features the works of Rebecca Allen from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. in the historic Holbrook Mill across from the new library.

Paramount Theatre’s Grand Gallery will host a reception for the opening of A-Men: Superheroes of the Arts in A-Town from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. featuring the incredible men who have a hand in the Aurora art scene. Located on the second floor, the exhibit will hang through the end of December.

New Hites Studios and Gallery is open for browsing upstairs at 14 W. Downer Pl. Visit the studios of artists Martín Soto, Kit Sunderland, Toty Pix, and others from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Get a professional head shot taken by Prairie Pro Photo.

SciTech Hands On Museum, 18 W. Benton St. is open from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.with free fun for the whole family. Local works of art along with art stations are set up during the evening.

Aurora Fastprint, 54 E. Galena Blvd., is open starting at 5 p.m. for its annual Wagon Wheel holiday party. The front of the print shop features works by Aurora Art Studios artist Cheryl Holz.

Green Buddha Life Sustainability Center and Eco-Arts Gallery, 205 W. Galena Blvd., is open with artists showing in the gallery from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Featured artist is Marisa Choate with art for all the senses.

River’s Edge Cafe, 14 W. Downer Pl., will be open from 6 to 10 p.m. with music starting at 7 p.m. The cafe is also celebrating their grand re-opening and will offer specials and more.

Warm up with some acoustic singer/songwriter campfire songs performed by David Glynn at Chef Amaury at 33 West, 33 W. New York St., starting at 8 p.m.
