The museum's award-winning new exhibit, "Getting There, Getting Water, Getting Rescued" traces the evolution of the tools and technology used by firefighters. Visitors can pass a leather fire bucket from the early 1800s. Visit with our fire horses. Discover what was found under the floor boards of the old central fire station. Marvel at the strange looking Vajen-Bader smoke mask. Explore the differences in fire hose nozzles. See and hear how modern fire engines clear the streets with sirens, air horns, and devices that change traffic lights green. Watch vintage film clips of firefighters and fire engines on one of five video touch-screens. All this in addition to five pieces of antique fire apparatus on display in a fully restored 1894 fire station.
THE BIG READ RETURNS TO THE FOX VALLEY
Community-Wide Reading Event Begins October 15
Our selection for this year's The Big Read is Ernest Hemingway's World War I classic, A Farewell to Arms. This classic novel has been called a tender and rapturous love story, as well as a harrowing tale of WWI. Hemingway's own experiences in the Italian Army during WWI and his time in a Red Cross hospital, as he recuperated from wounds he received while working as an ambulance driver, proved to be the model for this tragic romance that he penned in 1929.
Complete program details are available in the Schedule of Events brochure, available at all library locations and online at www.foxvalleyreads.org. Complimentary reader's guides, teacher's guides, discussion questions and audio CD guides are also available upon request from your library location. Contact Chris Schabel at (630)
