Alley Art Festival on Aug. 31
Alley Art Festival is going to take over the Water Street Mall for one day of fun and artsy festivities in downtown Aurora from noon to 5 p.m. on the last Saturday in August.
Artsy types will converge for the fourth year on the pedestrian brick alley between Downer Place and Galena Boulevard for a family-friendly event that celebrates community and the vibrant art and culture scene in Aurora’s downtown.
“We have almost 70 artists this year. It’s been wonderful to see the festival grow, but it’s even better to see artists claim it as their own,” said Marissa Amoni, editor and publisher of Downtown Auroran Magazine, who heads up the grassroots event.
The outdoor festival is participant-run and is what several artists and residents said they want to see in downtown Aurora.
Local artists and a handful of musicians will participate in the annual festival, including artists Jen Evans, John Heinz, Don Picton, Javi Terrazas, Mike Mancuso, Jaime Torraco, Maureen Gasek, Chris Hodge, Brittany Tripp, Greta Bell, and more.
The free event combines the arts with a street carnival atmosphere. Artwork and handmade items will be available for sale. Lions Club and Luigi’s Pizza will have food and ice cream available for purchase.
There will be two children’s hands-on art tents run by The Light of the Heart and Fox River Academy of Music and Art , lawn games, and a free yoga class are all part of the festivities.
This year, a full lineup of local musicians will perform on the lawn of the mall including Greg Boerner, Max Benson, The Swirls, Town Band, and more.
Alley Art Festival is sponsored by Downtown Auroran Magazine, City of Aurora, and Triple Threat Mentoring. This year’s poster was painted by local artist Joanna Goss.
